Jun 26, 2019· The mining industry has known for decades about these blind spots and the role they played in dozens of deaths. All the while, the U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has pushed companies to install readily available and relatively cheap safety features that, it says, could save lives.

Visibility is an issue in about half of all mining fatalities involving mobile equipment, according to Workplace Safety North. Duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act Employers, supervisors, and workers have duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act ( OHSA ) and the Regulation for Mines and Mining Plants .

Jun 19, 2017· Working in areas where there is low or limited visibility is one of the most dangerous safety blind spots. This could be in an area where there is not sufficient light, or an area where workers need to travel around corners or other similar things. These are especially dangerous when using larger equipment like forklifts or high-lows.

1. Avoid Blind Spots. It is crucial that heavy equipment operators know for certain that there is no one and nothing behind them before they back up. To avoid blind spots, the operator must sometimes physically get out of his machine and go to the back to look. Mirrors do not always provide a 360-degree breadth of vision.
